Mourinho hails Oscar

Jose Mourinho says Chelsea midfielder Oscar has ‘evolved’ into a player capable of controlling matches such as the one at Crystal Palace on Saturday, Sky Sports reports.
The Brazilian scored an excellent free-kick after six minutes to put Chelsea on their way to a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park that was their seventh victory in eight Premier League games.
It was a different type of midfield performance to the ones with which Oscar made his name last season before the Blues’ title challenge tailed off towards the end of the campaign.
Mourinho now does not regard Oscar as simply a playmaker, and says his game is improving all the time.
“Oscar, in this moment, is not a number 10,” the Blues boss said.

Ebola outbreak in the West: Why some survive, some don't

Watch this videoThere's no cure for Ebola. So why have some patients walked away healthy while others in the West died?
Dr. Kent Brantly, Nancy Writebol and Dr. Rick Sacra all contracted the disease while working in Liberia -- and all survived.
Spanish nurse's aide Teresa Romero Ramos got the virus while tending to stricken patients. She too lived.
But like the patients above, Thomas Eric Duncan and Spanish priest Miguel Pajares also received treatment in the West. Yet they died.
While there might not be a single, conclusive answer, a series of factors may contribute to survival.
Early, high-quality treatment
This may be the most critical factor in beating Ebola.
The survivors in the United States all have one thing in common -- they were rushed to two of the country's four hospitals that have been preparing for years to treat a highly infectious disease such as Ebola.
Brantly and Writebol were successfully treated at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta; Sacra was released from the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Duncan didn't go to one of those four hospitals. He went to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas with a fever and told them he'd recently returned from Liberia. Yet the hospital initially sent him home with antibiotics.
Then, after he returned to the hospital much more ill, two nurses became sick with the virus. They have since been moved to more specialized facilities such as Emory and the National Institutes of Health in Maryland.
But that doesn't mean patients are doomed just because they go to a different hospital.
. "In West Africa, the mortality rates are above 60%. I think it is better in the United States. But they're not going to be zero, I think no matter where somebody is."
Quick rehydration
After finding a hospital capable of treating Ebola, those who survive are usually rehydrated quickly.
"The most important care of patients with Ebola is to manage their fluids and electrolytes, to make sure that they don't get dehydrated," said Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "And that requires some meticulous attention to detail and aggressive rehydration in many cases."

Man beats pregnant wife to death in Enugu

Nigeria police logo
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Ozoemena Nwankwo, for allegedly beating his pregnant wife, Ndidi Nwankwo, to death.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, explained that the incident occurred around 10pm on October 17 at Nwankwo’s residence in Akpawfu village, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to the police, Nwankwo, who was described as a chronic wife-beater, beat up Ndidi, who was four months pregnant, until she lost consciousness.
The woman sustained a severe injury on her right leg during the beating.
It was learnt that the pregnant woman gave up the ghost after she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
It was learnt that Ndidi’s corpse had been deposited at Agbani General Hospital, while Nwankwo had been arrested.
The police spokesman said Nwankwo had expressed regrets over the development, saying he never thought his pregnant wife would die as a result of the beating.

Dangote Cement to pay N49m for extra-judicial killings

Dangote Cement
The National Human Rights Commission has asked Dangote Cement Plc to pay a total sum of N49m to the individuals and families of victims injured and killed extra-judicially by the guards of the company in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State in March 2014.
Seven persons were said to have been killed and seven others injured by the guards during a crisis which broke out in Tse-Kucha community in Yandev area of the local government on March 18.
A statement by the Chief Press Officer of the NHRC, Fatimah Mohammed, on Sunday, said Dangote Cement was expected to pay N5m to each of the families of the seven deceased persons and N2m to the seven injured persons.
According to Mohammed, the company agreed to pay the money after the NHRC investigated the petition of the victims and families of the deceased person.
The statement read in part, “Victims and family members affected by the March 18, 2014 crisis at Tse-kucha in Yandev, Gboko Local Government Council of Benue State, have expressed appreciation to the National Human Rights Commission for its intervention in their petition on the case of alleged extra-judicial killing pending before the commission and requested it to close the matter.
“The commission had, pursuant to the receipt of the complaint, undertaken preliminary investigations and conducted hearings after which parties explored mediation and reached an agreement brokered by the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Susuam, between representatives of the victims and Dangote Cement Plc.
“This amicable settlement resulted to the acceptance by the management of Dangote Cement Plc to pay a monetary compensation of five million naira (N5,000,000.00) each to the families of the seven deceased persons and two million naira (N2,000,000.00) each to the seven injured persons.”
The statement also quoted the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Bem Angwe, as promising “that the commission will continue to hold any institution accountable for human rights violations committed by them.”
It added, “The affected group had earlier petitioned the commission on the alleged killing of seven youths and wounding of several others by soldiers on guard at the Dangote cement factory.”

I am too old for presidency-Falae

Olu-Falae
Former Presidential candidate of Alliance for Democracy, Samuel Oluyemisi Falae CFR, has tagged the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, as a failure following its inability to tackle the litany of endemic problems plaguing the country.
Falae, who spoke during a press conference to unveil a critical mass movement of political parties, association and civil society organisations, Credible Alternative Alliance (CAA) in Abuja, however ruled himself out of the 2015 Presidential election contest, arguing that at 76 years he’s too old to contest.
Announcing that he would support any younger candidate vying for the position of president to upstage the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan, he insisted that the present government has failed Nigerians.
His words: “The current government has failed to perform and deal with the endemic problems prevalent in Nigeria like poverty, unemployment, insecurity, insurgency etc. From administration to the other, they are two sides of same coin. It has been the same incompetent, culture of rigging, lack of philosophy or competent manifesto.”
“So, people say, where do we go and what do we do? That was how we brought this alliance, Credible Alternative Alliance (CAA) as the alternative to lead these two none performing parties. We have read our programmes and philosophy and back them with our track records and credibility,” he noted.
Asked why he wants to exonerate himself from the corrupt system, the political heavyweight, argued: “I was part of the system but certainly not part of the corrupt system.”
“All my life, I have stood for what is right and proper, I have stood for integrity and principle. Recall that late General Sani Abacha detained me for two years even when I was his colleague in the Gen. Ibrahim Babangida military administration.

First Japan passenger jet in 4 decades rolling out

TOKYO (AP) — The first made in Japan passenger jet in four decades reaches a development milestone later this week.
A "rolling out" ceremony in Nagoya, central Japan on Saturday will unveil the long awaited Mitsubishi Regional Jet, or MRJ, a fuel-efficient lightweight carbon-fiber composite passenger plane.
Major Japanese machinery maker Mitsubishi Heavy Industries says the MRJ90 will seat 88 people, while the MRJ70 will seat 76, and the planned MRJ100X will have 100 seats.
The plane is billed as fuel-efficient, quiet and green, with a comfortable cabin of relatively wide seats and high ceilings.
The first flight is planned for the second quarter of next year, with test flights to follow totaling 2,500 hours, and the first deliveries are set for 2017.
MRJ has received 191 orders, from All Nippon Airways, Trans State Holdings, SkyWest, Air Mandalay and Eastern Air Line with 184 additional purchase options.
Japan Airlines announced in August it will buy 32 of the jets, with deliveries set for 2021, although the final deal has not yet been inked.
The MRJ is Japan's first nationally funded, domestically manufactured passenger aircraft since the YS-11, a turboprop airplane that was discontinued in 1973.
Mitsubishi has struggled to obtain orders, and initially attracted almost no interest even though it approached dozens of potential customers.

Learning to drill deeper and more safely

gumusut kakap projectIn Miri, the home of Malaysia’s oil industry, Shell is training a new generation of well engineers to help deliver major energy projects like Gumusut-Kakap .
Shell’s first deep-water project in the country – and Asia’s largest offshore platform – came on-stream in October 2014. When fully ramped up, it will contribute up to 25% of Malaysia’s oil production and create significant economic benefits.
Shell started its Miri wells training programme in 2011. Two years later the Asia Pacific Wells Learning Hub opened there, adding state-of-the-art simulators to an advanced well control programme considered one of the best in the world. It is accredited by the International Well Control Forum, an organisation that develops and runs well control training, assessment and certification programmes for the oil and gas industry.
Trainees arrive from across the Asia-Pacific region in search of skills that will enable them to drill safely for much-needed energy.
Miri is one of four such Shell centres around the world: others serve the Middle East, Europe and the USA. So far, more than 800 Shell wells engineers have qualified there and 500 from other companies.
The training centre offers specialist skills that will help Malaysia become a hub of deep-water energy production for the region.

How to wear A-line mini skirts

Hemlines have taken a seriously Sixties turn for autumn/winter 2014;

Rock steady
Sixties A-line shifts mingled with minxy A-line mini skirts during Saint Laurent's autumn/winter 2014 showcase. The one thing they had in common? The micro-hemlined outfits were all ultra dark. Luckily Hedi Slimane OK-ed opaque tights, making those bum-skimming skirts a little more demure and accessible.

Add structure
In fashion maths a mini skirt benefits from having something more modest placed up top. There's no need to pile on the layers though; seek out a structured sweater, as seen at Opening Ceremony's autumn 2014 show, for a more minimal, off-beat look.

Keshi sacked as Nigeria put ‘consortium’ in charge

Keshi-1
Stephen Keshi has been removed as head coach of Nigeria and replaced by a “consortium” of coaches for the side’s final two African Nations Cup qualifiers next month.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the move in a statement on Thursday, despite Keshi leading the Super Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Sudan in Abuja the previous evening, a result that got their qualification campaign back on track.
The consortium will be led by Shaibu Amodu, who returns to the helm for a fifth time, having qualified the side for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa before being replaced by Swede Lars Lagerback.
Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Aloysius Agu are the other coaches involved in the group to lead the reigning African champions.

AFCON 2015: Super Eagles get lifeline, beat Sudan 3-1

eagles ahmed musa
The Super Eagles yesterday won their first match since defeating Bosnia Herzegovina 1-0 at the World Cup after struggling to beat a determined Sudanese side 3-1 in the Match Day 4 of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
It now put an end to a five match winless streak, it was the first time the team doubled a lead since beating Ethiopia 2-0 last year November 16.
The Super Eagles will still have to win their remaining two matches, one away to Congo and the other at home with South Africa. That feat will possibly give Nigeria a tickle as either second place side of Group A or the lucky third placed side.
The relief to the crowd yesterday was so much that they invaded the pitch to celebrate a difficult, but won game.
The Sudanese belied their under dog status as they seemed to have come for a win and move to six points. Agile and skillful they contested every ball and gave the more experienced Super Eagles a run for their money.
The Nigerian side opened with a flurry of attack that it seemed a goal or two will go in before a quarter of an hour. It was not to be. Gradually, the determined Sudanese side fought gamely and even made some sporadic attacks.
By the 25th minute, the heavens poured down its liquid content, leading to kick and rush. Precision taking of shots became a near impossibility as the pitch became slippery.
The game turned a ding dong affair, especially as Sudanese forward, Bakri Abdelgadir became a thorn in the Eagles’ flesh. Surprisingly, more often than not, Abdelgadir, who operated from the left side of the attack was left unmarked. He nearly caused havoc on the dot of 45 minutes, when his point blank shot missed target by inches.
He was to contribute to Sudan’s solitary goal in the 56th minute when he laid a pass to Salah Ibrahim to take a rising shot that hit the roof of the Nigerian net.
Before then, birthday boy, Musa Ahmed had shot Nigeria ahead barely three minutes into the second half. The crowd went ecstatic. But their joy was soon doused when eight minutes later, Sudan leveled up.
Aaron Samuel Olanare restored Nigeria’s lead in the 66th minute. The Sudanese came out again in full force, attempting to level up again. It was not to be as Ahmed Musa, obviously the match hero dribbled and dribbled his way into the Sudanese box before unleashing a low drive that sealed the Sudanese fate.
Contrary to expectation, the scanty crowd cheered the Super Eagles as they filed out for pre match warm up. The Sudanese were the ones to receive mild boos. An hour to the kick off, the attendance was barely one-tenth of the 60,000 capacity stadium despite the gates being thrown open.

My first contact with this guy whom I will call worried guy for the purpose of this article was through another e-mail address. He’d asked if I could spare a few minutes to discuss a very personal issue with him on a given phone number which I’d obliged.

We have been talking ever since and the thrust of our discussion is what I have reproduced below as he has requested. Worried guy is a 32 year old hard working and very focussed banker, while his wife whom he met at the university works as a teacher in a private Secondary school.
They are both Christians and have been married for close to three years, but he would rather not take his problems to the church for personal reasons. He is counting on you and I to work things out. Please, let do this together!
Dear Yetunde,
I have a very serious problem which has started affecting me psychologically and even my performance at my job.
