THE immediate past Minister of
State for Defence and governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has vowed to
reposition Lagos for the best, if he wins the party’s primary and
eventually emerge as governor of the state.
Obanikoro said there is more to
developing Lagos other than the ‘kangaroo development’ and lopsided
policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he claimed
has completely cut off the masses, but favours few elite who are closer
to government.
The former minister disclosed he
is not in the governorship race for the fun of it “as some people were
already insinuating. Rather my passion is to build a Lagos that would be
conducive, comfortable, affordable and worth living for everybody.”
Obanikoro, who has also served
as the nation’s ambassador to Ghana, chided those questioning his
integrity and qualification to rule the state as unrealistic, pervasive
and full of petty jealousy “because my qualification, public service and
impeccable family background do not only qualify me, but the standard I
had set everywhere I served in public capacity are there to speak for
me.”
While calling on all Lagos PDP
stakeholders on the need to join forces with him and deliver the
helpless people of the state from the maladministration of the APC,
Obanikoro said, “those who have the wrong notion that the APC led
government under Governor Babatunde Fashola has done anything
spectacular should take a tour of all local government roads, public
health facilities, schools and other infrastructure before jumping into
conclusion.
“There is the need to compare
what the APC government has done with the stupendous wealth of few
individuals in the party. There is urgent need to rescue Lagos State.”
While speaking on his
declaration to contest next year’s election, Obanikoro expressed
optimism of winning the PDP’s primary and also the governorship
election.
He further called for peace and
unity to reign among members, adding that he was in the race to liberate
Lagosians from the burden of the APC administration in the state.
